Darwin had during the Voyage of the Beagle that led to each of the Essay

Darwin had during the Voyage of the Beagle that led to each of the component parts of his Theory of Evolution (Descent with Modi - show ExampleDarwins inspiration came from a five-year voyage of a ship known as the Beagle, during which he was the ships geologist. The voyage gave him umpteen changes to encounter the distri neverthelession of both wildlife and fossils, and he eventually collected these ideas into an extensive surmisal of natural selection, which he published in his book, The Origin of Species . Prior to Darwins theory, the overriding belief was that animals and plants were as God had created them, there were no differences. If change had been observed across time then this was explained that, for example, a generic bird had given bring forth to a woodpecker, with no apparent reason other than the will of God. Darwin considered that this did not match what he saw during the voyage, and what he considered and theorized over the time following. Darwins theory of evo lution consisted of four parts, each of which was supported by observations that Darwin had made during the voyage of the Beagle. Variation within Species One of the key observations that Darwin made during the voyage of the Beagle, was the wide ranging strain within members of the same species. There were almost limitless types of variation, such as card type and size in birds, amount of hair, eye color, and number of outcome engenderd, ability to conceal and success at mating. Species that had wide ranges, meshed a number of variable habitat types and were common had the most variation. Likewise, species that were in larger genera had much variation than those in smaller genera. Inheritance of Traits Darwin observed that many of the traits that varied among individuals of the same species were passed from a parent to its offspring. For example, a bird with a distinct beak shape passes this on to some or all of their offspring. Not all variation was heritable some variation w as not passed on from parent to offspring, but was a result of environmental changes, such as hair color as a consequence of exposure to sunlight. This was important for Darwins theory of evolution, as for traits to change over time there was a need for the ability for them to be passed from one generation to the next. High Population Growth When individuals produced offspring, they generally produced many more than would survive. Darwin observed this in a wide range of species, including both animals, bird and plant species. The effect was particularly strong in plants which often produce hundreds of offspring, but only a handful survive to maturity due to competition, predation and other externals factors. This led Darwin to predict that the presence of contrasting traits in the individuals in the population would increase the survival of some, and decrease it in others. Struggle for Existence and Differential Survival Darwin observed that there was a constant struggle for indivi duals and species to survive. Species occupied areas that were not ideal to them in order to avoid competition or predation, and individuals were constantly exposed to a fight to survive. This struggle was not limited to different species, but was equally strong between members of the same species. What species were struggling against, varied widely among species, for example a plant in the desert struggles to acquire complete water to survive, while plants in the tropics struggle for their offspring to acquire enough sunlight and resources due to intense inter- and intra-specific competition. It was this

Superbugs and misusage of antibiotics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Superbugs and misusage of antibiotics - Essay ExampleHowever, the popular used of antibiotics is for bacterial resistance. The stripping of antibiotics was only possible in the 19th century (History Learning Site 2013). unmatched of the main contributors to the development of antibiotics was Alexander Fleming. He accidentally discovered penicillin in 1928 from a culture plate of Staphylococcus bacteria (FAS n.d.). The culture plate had been left unattended during a two weeks vacation and became invested with Penicillium notatum mold (FAS n.d.). In the plate, he noted there was a clear space surrounding the yellow green mould. The observation led to a postulate that Penicillin was capable of limit bacteria growth (FAS n.d.). In later periods, other researchers took over and were able to purify penicillin. Moreover, there was more production of penicillin in pharmaceuticals industries for treatment of soldiers during World state of war II (FAS n.d.). Consequently, penicillin was u sed in the treatment of pneumonia, diphtheria, syphilis, gonorrhoea, and many other infections (FAS n.d.). Since this period, there has been the emergence of various antibiotics. On the other hand, there has been increased use of antibiotics in hospitals and patients. As a result, the constant use and reliance on antibiotics have led to their abuse. Consequently, this has led to antibiotics resistance with disastrous consequences to the community and health care sector. One of such bacteria is Methicillin loathsome Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The bacteria have been popular especially in British hospitals. A study carried out showed that MRSA bacteria in the United Kingdom were more than 15 times as compared to the safest countries (Marsh 2013). A reflection on MRSA helps in highlighting its impact, ways of spread, treatment, prevention and public health participation by society and politician. The antibiotic resistance has become an area of concern. The resistance occurs when st rains of bacteria in the human or animal body becomes resistant to antibiotics due to poor use and abuse of antibiotics (American College of Physicians (ACP) 2013). Some of the resistance develops in hospitals. This is because in hospitals, there is usually administration of millions of social diseases of antibiotics in a day (ACP 2013). As a result, there is increased chance of developing resistance in hospital as compared to other sectors. Moreover, some of the prescription whitethorn be faulty. This may occur as the doctors prescribe the use of antibiotics for cold, coughs and other viral infections (Pechere 2001). On the other hand, there are those individuals that demand physicians to authorize the use of antibiotics just because of common cold. Moreover, other gets antibiotics over the counter. Consequently, most of antibiotics are taken for control of viral infection instead of bacterial disease. Therefore, failure to test by physicians legislates to increased dose of antib iotics taken for viral disease. Consequently, majority of antibiotics are abused and misused. On the other hand, failure to complete the dosage of antibiotics as prescribed by doctor lead to the development of resistance (ACP 2013). Therefore, the improper use and abuse of antibiotics has contributed significantly to the development of antibiotic resistance (ACP 2013). Various types of superbug have emerged today. One example is the vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) (Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) 2000). However, its problem arose in 1996 as it was in hospital patients in Australia (ABC

Art - Research Paper ExampleSome of the headings are unidentifiable and there is little color. In this painting, color is minimal, which is different from umpteen of Picassos other works. The main coloring is black, white and greyscale, with some green and a burnt reddish-brown color. The use of minimal color makes the one area that is in green stand come forward which says the paintings name, Ma Jolie. This brings emphasis and attention to the artwork. Black and white is found throughout the entire canvas with just touches of the color which indicates that the artificer may have only wanted to emphasize certain areas of the artwork while others blended in and surrounded it.What I see is a sum of objects scattered across a canvas. It is difficult to determine what all objects are contained in this scattering of images as they are all somewhat unidentifiable. One object looks standardised a column, one looks like an old-time prescription bottle, one looks like it could be a flask or maybe even a camera. One object that is brown could be a flute of some sort as it has multiple black holes that look like an instrument. It also looks like a mound of papers underneath or even on a place mat. As I previously stated, it looks like a hushed life in a way but in a way that is not realistic but instead more modernized and abstract in nature.I think what the artist is trying to say in this art work is simply describing things around him during the time frame in which this was painted. I think that it is none other than a grouping on a table of things that are of interest to him or describe his era. That is what I think the appealingness of objects are is just that a few objects that perhaps inspired him. I think his lack of color exemplifies that he only wants certain things to stand out such as what appears to be a paper or program that says Ma Jolie. The black and white and large amount of white space helps to wee-wee that emphasis.Picasso also uses a lot of ba sic lines within the painting

Going finished the articles it is more than apparent that American Revolution was indeed influenced by the literary works at that time. Women and Work in Preindustrial Europe - Essay ExampleYet, with the importance of their work and the need that it filled, it was virtually often relegated to a lower spot and was hold uped servile to the power structure that it served. Most women during this period worked in occupations that were done at or near the home. The need to maintain a family life often kept them oscillating between short periods of employment and the duties of motherhood. Out of convenience and necessity, a womans choice of occupations was limited from birth. As Hanawalt observes, The piece of labor by sex was set early in a childs life (8). A womans dowry would be the initial contribution that women would make to the economy. It was around often used to set up the household, and then used to keep it running (Hanawalt 17). The tilling of soil was a solely male person domain, while women became the bakers, cooks, tailors, and cheat makers. This was done to support the home life and generate supplemental income. The brewing of ale, to be used in the home, was a typical example of a stabilise outside income, as was spinning thread (Hanawalt 11).While the womans dowry and marriage became a pooled resource to support a family, slavery was an institution that supported the manors and generated a source of un readinessed labor. Though oppressive, slavery was, as Sturad remarks, ... an acceptable alternative to for the organization of unskilled labor through the medieval period (39). The slave musical arrangement provided the labor for processing goods for export, as governesses, and wet nurses. Women were granted special respect based on a complex system that was defined by skill and rank. Caring for children was a valued skill and the ability to provide breastmilk to newborns was economically rewarded. The system of slavery, while filling a societal need with efficiency, was overwhelmingly live by women. In Ragusa during the years 1280-1284, the ranks of the slaves were as high as 90% female (Stuard 44).A womans contribution to the economy was often hidden behind the or so visible signs of commerce and the layers of male dominance. However, there were professions that enabled women to climb in status through occupational work. Nursing was especially valued. The 4 year apprenticeship required for nurses and the bonuses given to accept apprentices relate the importance that the beginning 16th century placed on the skill. The occupation was wide in scope demanding nurses to perform as dorsum up medical assistants during plague epidemics (Weisner 105). While the occupations that were very gender specific were often rewarding for women, often women were excluded from the normal channels of commerce. The same was true of the status gained by ent ering a trade, as it would be lower than the male membership. Where wealthier men had even greater dominance, such as Exeter, organizations were formed that effectively barred womens participation by excluding them from select groups. Markets and commerce were not banned by law, but the prejudice of tradition as Kowaleski observed, ...effectively blocked any real chance of commercial success (155).Single women and wives could rarely escape the lower status granted to them unless they married into a status.

Compositions Essay Example for Free

Compositions EssayMy parents took me to Chidambaram on the occasion of the festival for Lord Nataraja. That festival occurs once in a year. The crowd was huge. It had come from all move of India, and, in some cases, even from outside India. The crowd consisted of lot from various states in India. It therefore, consisted of people from different walks of life. We saw people from Northern states of India, like, Uttar Pradesh, Rajastan, Delhi and many more. We excessively saw crowds from Great Britain and The United States of America. We found people talking in different languages. Some of the people found it difficult to make the local people of Chidambaram understand what they meant. So, they needed interpreters. As mentioned earlier, the crowd was not only huge, but consisted of citizens of various status and from various states. Some leader was delivering a speech. He did not belong to Tamil Nadu. Sometimes he would speak in broken language and then switch over to different l anguage, which i too could not follow. The crowd was in no better position. So, there was commotion in the crowd because it could not understand what the speaker was talking about. When the crowd became restive, someone came on to the dias to do interpretation, but that did not also satisfy the crowd. Therefore, the speaker finished his speech and some one else came up the dias to deliver the speech. But, he too did not understand the local language well and there was a confusion again. This time the crowd became very restive and could not be controlled by the cops. When the blot appeared to be going out of control, the cops interfered and used water guns to disperse the crowd. When that too did not give the desired result, the cops naturally resorted to using bullets. The first fired in the air to terify the people. But, that did not yield the desired result. So they sprayed the crowd with actual bullets. This made the crowd retreat and some calm appeared to have descended on the cr owd. So, this was a meeting which was well attended. But, it was attended by people from various states speaking different languages and having different life cultures. The speakers also did not do anything to pacify the crowd. As i said earlier, the crowd came from different states and spoke different languages, they could not understand what the speakers spoke, nor could others understand what they spoke.
